Whenever I tell people my major (Psychology), I always get the question, "well, what do you want to do with that?" This is kind of a frustrating question because there's really only one of two options for a Psychology major after they graduate: to do experiments to provide research for therapists, or be a therapist. I decided to go the therapist route.
I remember the day that I decided to be a therapist, it was right after watching Analyze This. GREAT MOVIE. If you haven't seen it, brief synopsis. Billy Crystal plays this therapist who is treating a badass mobster played by Robert De Niro who has some serious mental instabilities. In the end, they become good friends and Billy Crystal is able to solve all of Robert De Niro's problems. It was at the end of this movie that I decided to be a therapist when I grow up. Billy Crystal changed my life.
But obviously I want to be a shrink for more reasons than just Billy Crystal's inspiration, he was more of a jump-starter to the idea. More reasons:
1. A therapist can help people and change lives.
2. They can treat psychological disorders in only a few hours.
3. They make a living off talking to people (which I love to do).
4. They can read people's emotions and therefore predict their behavior.
5. I am pretty much obsessed with Sigmund Freud who is one of the founding fathers of psychology. I have his books and quote him regularly.
6. If you're a good therapist, you can make a lot of money
7. I've always wanted a job in which I can help people. That is my calling in life and I plan on doing so through helping people through both their life and individual issues.
I have been back and forth on many forms of therapy. I used to want to be a survivors' guilt therapist, then that changed to an anger management therapist, which changed to an anxiety and phobia therapist and I am currently thinking of being a couples'/relationship therapist. But that will probably change too. All I know is I want to grow up to help people and change lives in the way I know best. Talking.
Thank you, Billy Crystal.

So this is blogging
There's always so much hype about blogging. I don't understand it at all, I think blogging is pretty pointless. So I decided to make one. When I think of blogging I think of that one movie, Julie and Julia I think it's called? It's that one where that girl is inspired by this world-renowned chef and decides to try all the recipes in this chef's cookbook and blog about them. Pretty cool movie, she spends a lot of time blogging and eventually has all of these people that follow her blog. I wish I could do that, but I don't really cook.
Another inspiration for me making this blog is the guy I've had a crush on for the past few months. He's a big blogger so I guess I'm sort of doing this to impress him/to be able to know what blogging is whenever we talk about it. So far so good :)
